Many people are surprised when they discover some of their favourite
foods did not come from the 'olde' country. For example, if you thought
the potato is Irish in origin or the tomato came from Italy then you
are wrong! Foods that were native to the Americas, and unavailable
in Europe before the voyages of Columbus, include sweet red and green
peppers, corn, peanuts, turkey, bison, vanilla, avocado, chocolate
and, yes, tomatoes and potatoes. At the pub we take pride in featuring
many of these foods to accompany our locally crafted wines and beers. |
